State-Based Marketplaces 2.0 Part 2: Engines of Innovation, Competition, and Consumerism

As states ready themselves for the start of open enrollment next week, the Day Health team would like to share the great work that state-based marketplaces have been doing outside of the national spotlight. These vital ‘engines of innovation’ have been steadily expanding consumer access and choice in healthcare. Our CEO Rosemarie Day wrote about this with 4Sight Health’s David Johnson in an article that was just published in The Health Care Blog: “State-Based Marketplaces 2.0 Part 2: Engines of Innovation, Competition, and Consumerism”.

While working on this piece, Rosemarie had the chance to sit down (virtually, of course!) with Peter Lee, Executive Director of Covered California, to discuss the role California’s marketplace has played as an innovator and leader in the state-based marketplace world. He shared some of the excellent work Covered California has done to grow enrollment, keep a well-balanced risk pool, and contain costs for Californians.

Please take a few minutes to read and share this two-part series [Part One of the white paper available here.] We hope that this serves as a promising reminder of the power and opportunity that state-based marketplaces have to innovate in ways that make healthcare better for consumers.

The Day Health team looks forward to supporting the continued growth of state-based marketplaces. We are helping to share best practices as states continue to innovate. And we want to encourage more states to consider building their own state-based marketplaces – now is the time!
