Dr. Sarah Bliss Matousek is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Gonzaga University and an Affiliate Faculty member in the Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington School of Medicine Spokane campus. Her work focuses on health system improvement, rural and community health, mental health systems, and organizational leadership in healthcare settings.

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Matousek spent more than a decade in healthcare management consulting with Day Health Strategies, advising health systems and healthcare organizations on strategy, operations, and system performance. Her research and applied work focus on strengthening health systems and improving access to care in underserved communities.

Dr. Matousek has worked closely with Massachusetts health leaders, most recently in the Merrimack Valley, when she served as a facilitator and project manager to enable the development of Merrimack Health. She has also facilitated strategy discussions for the State of Rhode Island related to its All-Payer Claims Database, supporting stakeholders in aligning on priorities and data use. Across projects, she brings extensive experience guiding complex conversations among health systems, community organizations, and government partners to develop shared strategies and actionable next steps.

Dr. Matousek holds a PhD in Neurobiology from the University of Rochester and a Master of Public Health from Boston University. She enjoys travelling, hiking, and spending time with her kids and dog.
